Roman Empire. Sabina, 86-136. Aureus, 128-129, Rome. Gold 7.16 g.; 20.5 mm.
Obverse: Bust of Sabina, wearing double stephane with hair braided and piled, draped, right. Obverse caption: SABINA AVGVSTA HADRIANI AVG P P //
Reverse: Vesta seated left, holding palladium in right hand and sceptre in left.

A very fine and rare specimen, with a beautiful patina! Cleaning and slight hairlines in fields. Old touchstone mark at 10 o'clock on the edge.

Struck for Hadrian's wife, whose hairstyle is an excellent indicator of the fashions of the time, associated with the goddess Vesta, the main deity associated with the feminine members of the imperial family.
