From the Blacas Collection, 1867; From the collection of a retired banker.
Only one specimen is known in public collections, in the British Museum, and the other has been seen for sale in NAC, Auction 114, 219, lot 782 (ex. Roma Numismatics, Auction 3, 2012, lot 515). All three specimens were struck with the same dies. Struck during the early years of his reign, the coin depicts the emperor in a youthful, beardless appearance, as he was only 16 when the coin was issued. The observe die was heavily damaged and rusted, with numerous rust-related die breaks visible in the fields. The reverse has been cleaned and scratches are visible in the fields.
