Roman Empire. Gallienus, 253-268. Aureus 260-268, Siscia. Gold 3.37 g.; 18 mm.
Obverse: Laureate head of Gallienus, right. Obverse caption: GALLIENVS AVG // Reverse: Mars advancing right wearing crested helmet, cuirass, pteruges and high caligae with ties, holding spear in right hand and shield in left hand. Reverse caption: MARTI PROPVGNATORI
RIC: --. Unpublished
A unique example! This coin is quite simply unpublished and is absent from all reference publications! Of exceptional quality, the coin still has some of its mint brightness. The strike has been slightly off-centre and part of the reverse legend is out of focus, but is still legible. The obverse is perfectly centred.
