Asia. Caria. Kaunos. Stater ca. 430-410 BC. Silver 11.75 g. ; 25.3 mm.
Obverse: Winged female divinity (Isis?), kneeling or running to the left, head turned to the right, holding kerykeion in left hand and a wreath in right hand //
Reverse: Incuse square with a triangular baetyl in the centre with two handles at the top, flanked on the right and left by two stylised birds in dots, accompanied by an inverted Δ above.
Konuk 1998, IV period, type 1, 93-95.
Almost uncirculated AU 55-58
This is a very fine specimen, with excellent conservation of the divinity's attire, which shows the precision of the engraving and the skill of the engraver. The birds are also superbly preserved, with slight circulating marks on their torsos.
